International Partnership to Bring High Performance Chromatography System to the U.S. Research Community
December 1, 2011: The Athena Enzymes System Group™ of AthenaES® announced today that it has entered into a distribution agreement with Knauer GmbH. The agreement gives Athena the exclusive rights to distribute Knauer’s Bioline™ Bio-chromatography Systems and their Biofox™ Chromatography Resins and Columns in the United States.

“Knauer’s Bioline™ and Biofox™ products are a solid addition to Athena’s portfolio of products,” says Athena’s founder and CEO, Dr. Sheldon E. Broedel, Jr. “We have been working for 18 years to help improve the production and recovery of proteins. Knauer’s engineers and scientists have done a tremendous job in designing a protein chromatography system where the instruments and separation resins are so nicely matched that their systems address each of the four key aspects of protein separation; resolution, speed, capacity and recovery, simultaneously.” Said Dr. Markus Fuchs, Head of Bioanalytics at Knauer, “we are very excited to be partnering with Athena because it brings together our background in instrumentation with Athena’s experience in bioprocessing.”

The Bioline™ Chromatography Systems were developed to provide researchers with a highly flexible, scalable system to improve the purification of proteins. Building on Knauer’s more than 50 years of experience with high performance liquid chromatography instruments, the Bioline™ instruments are precision engineered using performance-driven design criteria aimed at protein separations. The result is a modular instrumentation system that allows researchers to custom design the optimum system for their needs. This modular design concept provides for a highly flexible and readily scalable chromatography platform that begins with an affordable starter system which can be built upon by adding individual components as needed. Thus, a Bioline™ Chromatography System can be assembled to handle protein separations from analytical to process scales. To learn more go to www.athenaes.com/Bioline-Chromatography.

Knauer is a family owned business with headquarters in Berlin, Germany. Since it founding in 1962, Knauer has become one of the world’s leading companies in the area of chromatography systems. Development, manufacturing, and sales are united under one roof at the company's own premises in Berlin-Zehlendorf. Knauer mainly produces equipment for high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), for bio-chromatography as well as for osmometry. Today Knauer has 110 employees and sells its products in more than 60 countries around the world. For more information please visit www.knauer.net.

Athena Environmental Sciences, Inc. was founded in 1994 and specializes in the development and commercialization of advanced biotechnology-based products. The company markets its products and services through two business units.
